Tharpanam

Eye care ayurveda theraphy Near me

In the Tharpanam Ayurvedic treatment, medicated ghee or oil with Brimhana Dravyas (nourishing medicaments) is retained over the eyes with the help of a ring made from urad dal or black gram flour. The ring prevents the leakage of the medicated ghee so that the eyes can receive the warmth and nourishment for maximum effect. The commonly used medicated ghees in the procedure are Jeevanthyadi Gritham, Triphalai Gritham, and Patoladi Gritham.

Generally, the Tharpanam procedure lasts for about half an hour, but it can extend beyond that as well. After the completion of the procedure, the medication is drained out and the eyes are cleaned with a neat cloth. Fomentation may be given here to ensure that the oil is properly absorbed into the body. A bandage might also be applied over the eyes in the night and in between the sessions to relax the eyes.

To ensure that the procedure yields the best possible results, proper attention is given to the composition of the medicated ghee, well-sealed poultice, and the warmth of the formulation. During the procedure, individuals have to keep their eyes open as much as possible. While this could be a bit challenging, it will provide them with well-rested and completely distressed eyes.
